When to Seek Urgent Eye Care

If you have any new or concerning symptoms, contact our office for an urgent care visit. We are able to offer same day appointments for urgent care, and have the tools to effectively diagnose and treat these conditions. 

1. Sudden Red Eye: A new or sudden onset of redness in the eye can indicate various conditions, including viral or bacterial infection, allergies, or inflammation that may require treatment. 

2. Discomfort/Pain from Contact Lens Wear: If you’re experiencing pain, redness, or irritation before, after or during contact lens use, it could be due to an infection or other corneal disorders. Corneal conditions related to contact lens use can be vision threatening and should not be ignored. 

3. Pain/Light Sensitivity: Pain and increased sensitivity to light can be a sign of several eye problems including corneal disorders, infections or inflammation and often require treatment. 

4. New Flashes of Light or Floaters: Seeing sudden flashes of light or floaters in your vision can be a warning sign of retinal detachment or other serious conditions. This requires urgent retinal evaluation. 

5. Curtain or Veil Over Vision: Seeing a curtain or veil over your vision this may indicate a retinal detachment or other serious retinal disorders. This is considered an emergency and requires an urgent retinal evaluation. 

6. Scratched Eye: If you scratched your eye, you may feel pain or discomfort and notice redness. It is important to have your cornea evaluated to determine if treatment is needed to prevent infection.  

7. Foreign Body in the Eye: If suspect you have a foreign body stuck in your eye, such as metal, sand, or debris, it’s important to have it removed promptly to prevent further damage or infection. 

8. Stye: If you have a new emerging stye that is tender or sensitive to the touch, it may be a sign of an infection and require treatment.
